—GFSmith x Globe-Trotter. The GFSmith sales force represents the human face of the brand to its creative audiences, making in excess of four hundred personal customer presentations per week.
Historically, the team has carried their marketing tools and samples in a variety of containers, including tote bags and briefcases. Reflecting on this situation, I deemed the introduction of a consistent presentation device as a high priority for the business.
The search for a robust and good looking solution led me to creating a brand partnership with the iconic, luxury luggage company, Globe-Trotter. Working to my design, they produced a set of exclusive cases in a bespoke colour to match our newest Colorplan product.
—Parallel Values The partnership connected two companies that share similar heritage and values: both are British, both are fiercely independent and both were founded in the late 19th century. Another neat link is that the chief material used in the making Globe-Trotter’s iconic cases is paper; specifically, 14 bonded layers of vulcanised fiberboard.
To celebrate the collaboration, I commissioned a film that documents the skilful hand-production of the GFSmith cases in the Globe-Trotter factory. The footage captures the essence of an assembly operation that takes ten days and involves a total of 98 separate processes. It is this level commitment to craftsmanship that further reflects GFSmith’s own company values.
